Legislation abandoned last year amid opposition from architectural historians is again advancing this Session, despite concerns it will irreparably damage the character of tourism hotspots.
The measure, dubbed the “Resiliency and Safe Structures Act,” would preempt local historic preservation boards and allow the owners of old coastal properties to demolish and replace them with buildings as big as zoning allows.
