Rhonda Rebman Lopez considering ‘slander’ lawsuit over HD 120 attack ad

by carlislewillard

Key Largo businesswoman candidate Rhonda Rebman Lopez fell 91 votes short of unseating incumbent Rep. Jim Mooney in House District 120 last week. Now she’s considering suing him and the Florida GOP over an attack ad that ran on TV ahead of Primary Election Day.

Lopez takes issue with part of a 30-second ad saying she accepted money traceable to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s socialist regime — an accusation the Florida Election Commission ruled “legally insufficient” and based on “hearsay.”

“I’m considering a slander lawsuit because all I’ve got is time and money,” she said. “And that is a dangerous combination.”
