Winner: Charles Burkett
Burkett is back as Surfside Mayor, ousting Mayor Shlomo Danzinger. Danzinger beat Burkett by 35 votes in 2022 following the Surfside condo collapse. After Danzinger faced some controversy in office, Burkett won by around 100 votes, earning a third stint as Mayor. He also served from 2006-2010.
Loser: Local Democrats
South Florida Democrats had a rough Presidential Primary night, during which several municipalities throughout the state held local elections. A Republican won the Delray Beach Mayor’s race, and every GOP-backed candidate won in the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea contests. Democratic turnout was low after the party canceled its Presidential Primary.
