The money hasn’t been totaled yet but the primary candidates for Miami’s next mayor raised more than $12 million collectively. Esteban “Steve” Bovo and Daniella Levine Cava both fought a competitive race but with no one receiving a majority, the rules of the game mean they face each other again on Nov. 3.
Each will likely spend the next two months raising money from the same pool of donors that other local, congressional, state house and senate, and presidential candidates will be tapping into. With the heat turned up, the winner of this fight controls a local budget in the billions.
